Silicon Chip November 2014
The new Currawong Valve Amplifier has arrived, for all those valve enthusiasts, this valve amplifier delivers
terrific performance using readily available valves and other components. Each channel uses two 12AX7 twin triodes
for the preamp and phase splitter stages and two 6L6 beam power tetrodes in the class-AB ultra-linear output stage.
The results are a high-performance, low distortion, attractive looking Valve Amplifier that can be built at home.
Also this month, build a Programmable Mains Timer with Remote Switching, this unit can be used to
switch mains equipment on and off after a set interval, as well as being programmable to
turn on equipment at a certain time of the day. The unit includes an LCD for easy programming and
setting up the system. Finally this month, a one-chip Mini 2x5W Stereo Amplifier, this unit
is compact and can be easily mounted in radios, USB playback units, etc. This unit is based on the STMicroelectronics
TDA7226 Class-B audio amplifier IC, which delivers excellent performance for a small SMD IC.
All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
This month's features look at Gorilla Glass, the new technology in glass that is ultra-tough and flexible. This glass is now used in many smart phones and laptop computers. This excellent article looks at the composition of the glass and how it is made. Also this month, a look at finding coaxial cable faults using time-domain reflectometry, cable faults can be located easily without needing to inspect the full length of the cable, this article explains the technology in detail. Plus all the regular columns, including the Circuit Notebook, Serviceman's Log and Vintage Radio are included, providing stacks of great reading.
