Silicon Chip July 2014
The July issue of Silicon Chip Electronics Magazine, features a simple Threshold Voltage Switch.
This easy to build unit, will switch a relay once an input voltage exceeds a preset voltage threshold.
Ideal for switching on fans or exhaust systems once a certain condition is reached. The unit
provides an adjustable trigger threshold with triggering on either upper or lower limits.
A heavy duty relay is incorporated in the design with standard pcb terminal connections for easy
wiring termination. Also this month, part 3 of the Micromite BASIC Controller article, in this issue build an
ASCII Video Display Terminal for easy display of readings and selecting various options on a dedicated control
solution. Finally this month, an add-on board for the 12-Digit High Resolution Counter. This board
provides for gating times of up to 10,000 seconds.
All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
This month's features include an interesting look at the Argo monitoring program for the Oceans temperature and currents. These drones are spread throughout the worlds oceans constantly monitoring the water temperature, salinity levels and other parameters. The units regularly descend around 2000m collecting data and then transmitting this by satellite to monitoring stations, when the unit surfaces. The units are providing detailed information on ocean flows and climatic changes. Also this month, a look at the Eye-Fi cards now available, these units provide the ability to download your photos from a standard size SD card without having to remove the card from your camera. Ideal for a wide range of applications where higher quality pictures are required without the need to constantly connect and download the large photo file sizes. Plus all the regular columns, including the Circuit Notebook, Serviceman's Log and Vintage Radio are included, providing stacks of great reading.
