Silicon Chip February 2008

The February issue of Silicon Chip, features a great article on how a Toyota Prius was modified to achieve an incredible 100 MPG with the addition of a Lithium-ion Battery Pack. The battery pack were easily accommodated in the boot of the car with only a few modifications needed to the electronic system to achieve this remarkable fuel consumption. Also this month we review the new ATTEN Digital Storage Oscilloscope, this is a top of the range unit featuring a high sampling rate.

This month’s projects include a wide range of remote control power switches. Want to control any mains appliance with a simple UHF Remote Switch, this unit is capable of switching loads up to 1.87kW and up to 10 units can be controlled, by setting different ID's for each unit. The unit will operate up to a distance of 200m, making it ideal for switching an external pump or garage light. Also this month a PIR triggered Mains Switch, this unit is capable of switching a device when a person approaches. Ideal for external lighting or a door bell, also for switching a recording device when movement is detected. This month also a simple shift indicator and rev limiter for cars and a mini solar battery charger with high efficiency.
