Silicon Chip December 2014

In the December Issue of Silicon Chip Electronics Magazine, build a new design High-Energy Multi-Spark CDI for performance cars. This improved design provides a high-energy, multi-spark discharge each time a spark plug is fired to ensure complete mixture combustion and is especially effective with engines that run at high RPM. The unit is suitable for 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. The unit can work with points, reluctor, engine management systems or Hall effect signals for spark firing. The unit is housed in a solid metal enclosure and can be easily installed in cars. Also this month, build a WiFi Server for just $5, this unit can easily connect with our controller boards or the Micromite mini computer. The unit incorporates a 2.4GHz transceiver, TCP/IP stack and a web server, simply connect the unit to your network and you can send and receive data to any location over the web. This month, also includes the construction details for the Currawong Valve Amplifier, detailed instuctions are provided and you will soon be able to complete a very professional valve amplifier you built yourself. Finally this month, a TDR Dongle, for cable fault finding. Easily track down faults, and cable cracks in coaxial and other cables, using time-domain-reflectometry. All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.

In this month's articles, a look at the amazing ARGUS-IS Sureveillance System, this system is designed to monitor a fixed area for days, months or years. It can see and record data continuously and can identify objects as small as 15cm. Also this month, plenty of new equipment reviews, including a DSP Receiver, Debug Meter and the new Icom 2-Way Radios. Plus all the regular columns, including the Circuit Notebook, Serviceman's Log and Vintage Radio are included, providing stacks of great reading.
