Holtek Releases New HT45F2020 Sound Effects Generator IC
New IC Includes A Wide Range of Effects, As well as the Ability to Load Special Sound Effects
Holtek have released the new HT45F2020 Sound Effects Generator Microcontroller Unit. This unit features a number of preprogrammed sounds, as well as the ability to program the unit with different sounds. The device is ideal for use in Car Alarms, Security Alarms, where different sounds can be used to indicate different events within the alarm operations. The IC can also be used in vibration products, such as electric toothbrushes and meal pagers, where different vibration effects can be applied to indicate certain events.

The IC includes an internal shunt regulator and a separate zener diode or linear regulator is required. The IC has a wide operating voltage of 8V-30V, making it suitable for use in portable products as well as larger 12V and 24V Control Systems. The I/O ports are rated to directly drive a pieze buzzer or speaker and a separate transistor or drive circuit is not required. An external amplifier can be used when a larger sound volume is required. The IC is supplied in a compact SMD SOT23-6 package.
Holtek also supply a parameter software platform for easily programming the unit with different sounds. The “Sound Effect Generator Wizard”, contains dozens of ready to use sound effect and further sound effects can be easily loaded. The software also includes a 200ms soft chirp and fade-in effects. Typical circuits and designs are included in the software to help the developer quickly design and implement the IC in their products.
