Silicon Chip January 2008

This month we review the new Denon Compact Disc Player, this unit is ideal for hi-fi enthusiasts and features excellent playback performance. Also we look at the new PICAXE VSM software for circuit simulation of your PICAXE project. Develop and test your PICAXE circuit without needing to set-up any parts.

This month’s projects includes the new high-performance swimming pool alarm. Ideal for protecting your pool from the possibility of a drowning by an infant falling into the pool. This unit monitors the wave height caused by a disturbance in the pool and will sound an alarm when this exceeds a certain level. The unit automatically resets, and can be easily installed and built, with a minimum number of components required. Also this month an emergency lighting controller, thus unit switches on 12V emergency lighting as soon as the power fails, ideal for workshops, main living areas etc. The unit uses a power pack supply and can be used on a number of different voltage systems. This month also build a 3-Valve radio receiver, this unit uses easy to find valves and is a great educational project, for those restoring old receivers. Finally this month the 3rd portion of the Water Tank Level Meter and a simple 455kHz Modulated Oscillator to build.
