Silicon Chip August 2012
The August Issue of Silicon Chip Electronics Magazine is still available, with a new improved Driveway Sentry Project,
this unit uses a sensor loop to detect vehicles passing over loop. It can be used in driveways or
on paths to detect car, truck, tractors etc. The unit has an output relay for switching lights
or alarms when a vehicle is detected, also included is an exit delay, an adjustable alarm or contact closed
period, sensitivity adjustment and a test button. Ideal for those arriving home late at night or for
checking when vehicles enter a property. Also this month, a mains time for use with lights or fans.
The unit can be used to allow exhaust fans to run for a certain period after the lights have been
turned off, or for a leaving the lights on for a set time when you are leaving. Finally this month,
an adaptor unit for measuring currents up to 30A with a multimeter or scope.
All projects come complete with circuit diagram and electronic parts list.
This month's articles cover the new Remote Piloted Aircraft that are now available. These small compact helicopters can be used for a wide range of applications, including aerial photography and monitoring remote facilities that are very difficult to access. Also this month, a quick test drive of the new Nissan Leaf, we look at the performance, the design and how it was to drive.
