New Microcontroller Combines a High Power Amplifier with USB Audio in a Powerful MCU

The New PCF2123 features a tiny foot print with extremely long stand-by time,

Holtek Semiconductor has released the new highly integrated HT82A836R microcontroller device. The main features of the device lie in its integrated USB audio, Audio Codec and high power amplifier, as well as its embedded microcontroller. The internal One Time Programmable Program Memory provides the necessary development platform for convenient product design and manufacture as well as a means for program flexibility to meet the requirements for future application upgrades or enhancements.

The HT82A836R, in addition to meeting the requirements of the USB 2.0 Full-speed and USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specifications, also include a fully integrated Sigma-Delta type Audio CODEC, to provide a high resolution analog to digital converter function. When used in conjunction with the internal high power Class AB audio amplifier, the USB system has sufficient power to easily drive a 4 ohm load, and can provide an output power of 400mW on each audio channel. Additionally, the embedded microcontroller, in its 80-pin package format, provide up to 44 programmable I/O pins. When used together with the internal u-law coder/decoder, SPI (Serial to Parallel Interface), PFD (Programmable Frequency Divider), 12-bit 6-channel A/D converter and 8-bit 2-channel PWM functional units, the user is provided with a means of keeping their external components to a minimum and their application circuit as simple providing them with a solution for a diverse range of designs.

The HT82A836R allows for easy product development. To assist in this area, Holtek supplies a suite of development tools, which include its hardware In-circuit Emulator (ICE), the IDE-3000 development system as well as a range of application examples. These resources combine to ensure that users have all the tools they need to ensure their products are designed as efficiently as possible.

This highly integrated USB Audio device is fully compatible with the Audio Device Class V1.0 specification and supports the HID standard interface. In accompaniment with its internal embedded microcontroller and internal functions, the device is extremely suitable for USB Audio applications and by not needing external IC devices, offers a complete solution for products such as USB Multi-function Keyboards with Audio, USB Multi-function keyboards with Internet (Skype) Phone, USB Joystick with Audio and USB Wheel with Audio etc. applications. The device can of course be used in accompaniment with the HT82A850R and 2.4GHz RF IC for implementation in products such as the Handsets of Wireless Internet Phones in USB Multi-functional Keyboards.
